Quick Facts About: Highland Falls, New York


The village of Highland Falls, New York, is probably not on your vacation radar.  Itís best known for its military connections:  The United States Military Academy at West Point is the next door neighbor of this little town.  Itís other claim to fame is somewhat older - nearby Fort Montgomery was the site of a fateful battle in the Revolutionary War.


Getting There:  Airport options include Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, LaGuardia and JFK in New York City, and Newark International Airport in Newark, New Jersey; each of these are roughly with an hourís drive (not counting traffic) from Highland Falls.  Highland Falls is 50 miles from New York City and approximately 30 miles from Poughkeepsie.


Staying There:  There are a few options when it comes to hotels and motels in the Highland Falls area.  Some guests - particularly those with a requirement of extra space, extra privacy, and extra freedom - prefer to book a vacation home rental.  If you canít find one in Highland Falls, consider checking out a nearby town in the Hudson Valley region.

Things to Do:  Like other areas in rural New York, there are plenty of outdoor activities and venues vying for your attention.  To the north is Storm King State Park; Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain Park are to the south.  Thereís also the massive Palisades Interstate Park, also to the south.
