New York Rentals Happy holiday at the Holiday Inn
by Surfgrl103 (originally published on Epinions.com)

My family and I recently spent a long weekend at the Lake Placid Holiday Inn. After a 6 hour drive, we were pleased to have a friendly staff accommodate us and rush through our check in process. We were there with a large group and were pleased to find we all were placed within close proximity to each other.

The room was comfortable, had two soft double beds. The decor was classic and included a sitting chair, desk, and decent size television. The room also included a small refrigerator and a microwave which came in handy. The TV offered a good channel selection and video game/internet access (for a fee). The bathrooms offered a coffee maker and hairdryer. The only "con" I can think of is that the bathroom was quite large and had a tile floor which was FREEZING! Heat lamps would have been appreciated. I also ran out of hot water during my shower. The view from the room made up for it, it was amazing! There was also no gripes about having tons of children running around, playing in the hallways, having fun.

The kids enjoyed the heated swimming pool and hot tub.

The lounge next to the lobby was cozy and had a woodsy feel to it. The bartender was courteous and accommodated our large party in a pleasant manner. There was a good top shelf selection and a popcorn maker for snacks.

The restaurant offered us a buffet breakfast/dinner. The breakfast buffet was disappointing. The eggs were cold, hash browns soggy and the bacon burnt to a crisp. The staff would practically pat you down as you left the restaurant to ensure you didn't walk away with any coffee mugs!? The second day it was not as bad and offered waffles. The dinner buffet was OK. For 10.95, they offered one choice of soup, a salad bar, and your choice of pasta, soggy green beans, some form of scalloped potato, spaghetti, potato puffs, white fish, fried chicken, and a pork loin carving station.

Later that evening a few of us were feeling a bit sick with what felt like a small case of food poisoning. We decided to forgo the restaurant buffet for the rest of our stay after that experience.

We loved the location. You could walk down the hill to the Olympic skating rink and could pay to skate on the outdoor speed skating rink (5.00 per person w/out rentals).

They had a great variety of restaurants at the bottom of the hill and had great shopping and a movie theatre. There is a quaint restaurant called the Veranda across the street from the hotel that looked great. We did not get a chance to try it out, but we heard the food was wonderful.

During the day we drove to Whiteface Mountain to snowboard. The hotel does offer a shuttle to the mountain, but we opted to drive. It takes about 15 min from the Holiday Inn to the Mountain. VERY close!

The hotel was a great value for the money, is in a great location, and has superb service (minus the cup pat down). They do have rooms available with hot tubs and fireplaces.

I would definitely recommend the Holiday Inn Lake Placid.
