Point Lookout Inn, Greene County - What a Gem! by Lisa (originally published on Epinions.com) Recently we changed routes on our return trip from our weekend trip to our summer home in Grand Gorge. We were told by some local folk that if we took route 23 to exit 21 we would save some time because the area was not as populated as route 28. We took the advice and figured we would stop at a restaurant before heading out on the thruway for dinner. As we were driving we saw many restaurants in the town of Jewett, Ashland and Windam. They all looked very unappealing and dumpy. My husband started to whine that he was hungry and why did we have to try an new route today....and Blah Blah Blah....when all of a sudden we saw the most spectacular site. It was a Hotel/Restaurant atop a large bluff. It had the most spectacular views that I have ever seen. It was Panoramic...I was breathless. I asked my husband to turn around so I could take pictures. My Mother-in-law suggested we check out the menu in the Restaurant. We walked into the restaurant to the most tastefully decorated place I have ever seen. All of the tables from any angle could view the 5 state panoramic view from any angle you sat at. We choose a window seat. The menu had something for everyone...including my vegetarian daughter. The service was excellent, the food prepared to perfection. The deserts were fresh and homemade. The owner/manager made it a point to visit everyone and asked how everything was. When he came to our table, he gave us a history of the Point Lookout Inn. He also explained that he had rooms above the Restaurant. He invited us to us the game room anytime we wanted to. I asked him how much a room for the night cost and he said $120.00 midweek and weekends were slightly higher. The location of this wonderful Inn was close to many attractions:
The Catskill Game Farm One attraction was right there at the hotel/restaurant. It was a view of 5 states, you could see Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
If you stop at the Point Lookout Inn and are hungry, make sure you try the shrimp and scallops in a light scampi sauce of pasta....the smell is to die for and the taste is unbelievably delicious. And make sure you top off your meal with the homemade Apple pie with homemade Vanilla
