Exploring Wading River (and Beyond!) From Your Vacation Rental

Wading River is a hamlet located between Brookhaven and Riverhead.  It’s a great place for a vacation home rental if you’re looking for a base to explore the North Fork of Long Island or the rest of Suffolk County.

Why:  Wading River takes its name from a Native American phrase that roughly translated into ‘place where we wade for clams’.  It’s other, better-known tagline is more appealing to many vacationers:  Gateway to North Fork.

Where:  Wading River is approximately 13 miles west of Aquebogue and the start of the North Fork region of Long Island.  It’s on the shore of Long Island Sound.  Long Island Airport in Islip - Ronkonkoma is about 23 miles to the west; Manhattan is nearly 75 miles west.

What to Do and See:  In addition to the wonders and attractions of North Fork - wineries, anyone? - the Wading River area is convenient to some other activities.  These include Long Island Aquarium and Tanger Outlet Center in Riverhead, and Great Rock Golf Club and Wildwood State Park in Wading River.  And with the Sound right next door, so to speak, you can enjoy local beaches, rent a boat, or just enjoy the view from your vacation rental.
