Upper Jay Vacation Rental Homes

Choosing a vacation rental cottage, home, cabin, or apartment is one of the major decisions you’ll make when planning your next New York getaway.  In the Adirondack region, there’s a long tradition of kicking back at the mountain cabin (or, for the very posh, the mountain mansion).  If, like most travelers, a second home isn’t in your budget, renting a vacation home can be just as good.

What and Where:  Upper Jay is a hamlet in the township of Jay, in Essex County, New York.  The Ausable River curves through the landscape on its way to Lake Champlain and the city of Plattsburgh, 37 miles northeast.  Much nearer is Lake Placid - about 15 miles to the west - and if you’re looking for a vacation with an emphasis on winter sports, Upper Jay can be an excellent home base to that famous Olympic site.

If you’re interested in skiing, Upper Jay is within 20 miles of Whiteface Mountain, one of the best ski resorts east of the Rockies.  Mackenzie Mountain is also within a reasonable drive.

What to Do:  Aside from skiing, people flock to the Upper Jay area for other outdoor sports.  In warmer months, the Ausable River - which forks into two branches in the nearby hamlet of Au Sable Forks - is famous for its fly fishing.
