New York Vacation Ideas: Thurman Pond

Thurman Pond isn’t exactly one of New York’s well-known bodies of water.  There’s no competing with Lake Ontario to the west or Lake Champlain to the east.  As a matter of fact, Thurman Pond is even overshadowed by its near neighbor, Schroon Lake.

Where to Stay:  Naturally, finding the right vacation rental home, apartment, cottage, or villa is one of the most important parts of planning your trip.  If you can’t find a vacation rental that suits you around Thurman Pond, consider widening your search to include the town of Schroon Lake; Thurman Pond sits within the town borders.  In fact, the town of Schroon Lake is between Thurman Pond and the Lake itself.

Where exactly is Schroon Lake?  It’s off I-87, about 94 miles north of Albany or 60 miles north of Saratoga Springs.  Staying in this area also puts you close to Lake Champlain at Ticonderoga (21 miles east) and at Plattsburgh (70 miles north). You’re also within an hour’s drive to Vermont.

What to Do:  With so many lakes in the area, almost any water sport is open to you.  And as part of the Adirondack Mountains, you can also enjoy skiing, golf, hiking, and other outdoor sports.
