Fire Island Destinations:  Saltaire Vacation Rentals

When it comes tome to book a summer vacation rental, for folks on the east coast (and points west), thoughts usually turn to the Atlantic coastline.  Fire Island, which has been described as a giant playground, usually draws a fair share of vacationers looking for sandy beaches, surf-worthy waves, and plenty of good seafood.

What and Where:  Saltaire is on the western end of Fire Island, between Kismet and Fair Harbor.  It’s one of Fire Island’s most family-friendly communities.  There’s a youth program, plus basketball, tennis, and other sport facilities.  And don’t forget the beach!  With Robert Moses State Park nearby, you can also get in a round of golf or two.

Getting There:   To get to Saltaire and the rest of Fire Island, you’ll most likely need to make use of the Bay Shore - Fire Island Ferry.  It’s about ten miles from Saltaire to West Bay Shore, and most of that is the waters of Great South Bay.

The nearest airport, Long Island MacArthur, is about 25 miles away at Islip - Ronkonkoma.  New York’s main airports, JFK & LaGuardia, are 40 and 50 miles away.

So if you’re looking for a vacation rental cottage by the sea for the whole family or for a group of friends, don’t skip Saltaire!
