Fire Island Destinations:  Robins Rest Vacation Rentals

Fire Island has been drawing vacationers since it became an offbeat retreat for artsy types in the 1920s.  These days it’s a popular vacation rental spot, drawing literally every kind of traveler, from families who return here year after year to college kids on break from studying.

Part of the draw of Fire Island - aside from the sheer beauty of its beaches and the fact that the island seems to be made up almost entirely of coastline - is the different communities that call it home.  There are party spots, for sure, but there are also places where you can quietly enjoy a sunset in unspoiled natural scenery.  Most notably, both ends of Fire Island have parks:  Robert Moses State Park occupies the western end, while Fire Island National Seashore does the same for the eastern tip.

Getting There:  Before you head off to Fire Island, you may want to leave your car; some areas restrict vehicle usage.  Instead, you can catch the Long Island Rail Road to the ferries at Patchogue, Sayville, or Bay Shore on Long Island. 

If you do choose to drive, remember that Long Island traffic.  It can make the commute from Islip’s Long Island MacArthur Airport to your Robins Rest vacation rental a lot longer that you’d think.
