Richmondville:  Little Town, Big Impact

Are you looking for a vacation rental in New York’s Catskills region?  If you’ve decided to pass up the resorts and hotels in favor of booking your own space, complete with kitchen, you may be one of those fortunate travelers who don’t just visit - they explore.

A vacation rental in small town New York, as opposed to staying in a tourist resort, has its advantages and its disadvantages.  Take the little village of Richmondville, for example.  It’s probably not the first place you thought to plan your vacation around.  Richmondville is off I-88 in Schoharie County.  It’s about 30 miles east of Cooperstown and Lake Otsego and around 50 miles west of Albany.  Richmondville’s scenery could be described as rolling and verdant.  There are no fewer than six state forests to the south and west of the town.

So, why make your home base in a small town?  It’s all about options.  In the mood for a little history?  Schoharie County is home to a railroad museum and several historical houses.  Do you like your scenery underground?  Howe’s Caverns, in Howe’s Caves, New York, is 12 miles away.  If you’re in the mood for culture (or baseball) you can find both in Cooperstown.  While Richmondville may not feel like the center of it all, it can be a good central location for a vacation.
