Get Away From It All In Putnam Valley

There’s an odd thing about New York City.  According to what you read in the papers, its inhabitants seem to long to “get away from” the lights and energy of the Big Apple.  The odd thing is how many others want to get to those lights and that energy.  So, where do New Yorkers go to get away?

That answer depends on the New Yorker.  Putnam Valley is a viable option - not only for weary big city dwellers but for anyone in the rural vacation rental market.  Thanks to its steep slopes, the Clarence Fahnestock State Park, and the fact that about 1/3 of the town’s area is held in a land trust, Putnam Valley is a little bit of country, only an hour north of one of the world’s biggest cities.  Another great landmark, the Hudson River, is only ten minutes away.

Putnam Valley has more than just quaint vacation rentals, hilly landscape, and meandering country roads.  Lakes play an important part in the recreation here, and by far the biggest is Lake Oscawana, which contains 386 of the 525 lake-acres in town.  Other activities include golfing - there are five public courses in the area.  Putnam Valley Town Park also has facilities for tennis, roller hockey, and other sports.
