Oneida Lake:  Welcome to the Finger Lakes

Approximately 15 miles northwest of Syracuse and Hancock Airport lies one of the jewels of the Finger Lakes region:  Oneida Lake.

According to the Native American legend, the Finger Lakes area was blessed by God - so blessed, in fact, that the lakes are actually a divine handprint.  Modern geology tends to take a more prosaic view, telling us that the lakes are the result of glacial activity.  However you choose to view it, this area 30 miles south of Lake Ontario is exceptionally beautiful.

Oneida Lake is particularly outstanding.  It has the traditional long, lean shape of a finger lake, but it is also New York State’s largest inland lake.  (Presumably Lake Ontario doesn’t count, since it shares a border with Ontario, Canada.)  Scattered along its 22-mile length and gazing out over its 97,000 acres of water are several towns, including Constantia, Cleveland, Sylvan Beach, Bridgeport, and Brewerton.  It’s an ideal spot for a vacation rental, both as a Finger Lakes destination and as a more localized getaway.  Other spots for vacation rentals in the area include the small town of Nelson.
