Fire Island Destinations:  Ocean Bay Park Vacation Rentals

As a barrier island, Fire Island is narrow and proportionately very long - about 31 miles.  From your vacation rental in Ocean Bay Park, you’re not too far from the main sights on this island.  These include some spectacular seashore, as seen at Fire Island National Seashore, Sunset Cliffs Park in nearby Ocean Beach, and Robert Moses State Park, where you can also golf.

What and Where:  The community of Ocean Bay Park is near Ocean Beach, the not-quite-official capital of Fire Island.  That means you get to choose form the most restaurants, shops, and bars.  Ocean Bay Park is something of a party town, so if you value solitude, you may want to spend Spring Break elsewhere.

Getting There:  Ocean Bay Park is on the western end of Fire Island.  It’s about 30 miles from here to Long Island Airport.  New York’s great travel hubs, LaGuardia Airport and JFK Airport, are 50 and 60 miles away.

You can bring a car to Ocean Bay Park, but you’ll need to use the ferry service to get across Great South Bay.  Service runs from Bay Shore to Fire Island.

If you’d rather beat Long Island traffic while going to your vacation rental cottage or villa, you can also take the Long Island Rail Road to Bay Shore.  Or, if you’re coming by boat, make use of the many marinas that dot Fire Island’s shores.
