North River Adirondack Vacation Rentals
On the upper reaches of the Hudson River, the hamlet of North River - actually part of the larger town of Johnsburg, New York - is doubly well-known. It’s first claim to fame is sharing in the natural beauty for which the Adirondacks are noted. In this case, North River is between the Hudson Gorge and Gore Mountain - and, skiers will be happy to know, handy to Gore Mountain State Ski Center. The secondary reason for North River’s name recognition? Garnet mining industry - probably an activity you won’t be doing during your vacation.
Where: If you are considering renting a vacation home in the North River area, you should know roughly where you’ll be heading; after all, the Adirondack region is a big place. This particular spot is about 30 miles northwest of Lake George (village and lake) and 50 miles southwest of Ticonderoga.
What to Do: Fans of cross-country skiing can practice their skills at Blue Mountain, about 7 miles from North River. The proximity of lakes and rivers means plenty of fishing, as well as boating, canoeing, and other water sports. And there’s plenty of opportunities to unleash your camera and take pictures of that Adirondack scenery.
