Nelson:  Lake View Living

Nelson, a town of about 2,000 people, is unique in its setting in northern New York.  It is near the finger lakes, but not of them.  The landscape is dominated largely by water, in the form of long, slim lakes, wetlands, and swamps, bordered by forests.  But is it the Finger Lakes?  Not really - but it isn’t all that far away.

This doesn’t mean that Nelson caters exclusively to vacation rental seekers who doesn’t want to pay Finger Lake rates (although, with Lake Oneida 25 miles to the northeast and Syracuse 25 miles to the west, that’s not a bad idea at all.)  There are more than 200 years of history here, and while Nelson is a small town, vacation rental seekers will still find plenty to lure them here.

This is especially true if the vacationers are keen on outdoor activities.  Naturally, with such an abundance of lakeshore around, these can center on the aqueous sort:  boating, swimming, fishing, etc.  Hiking is also a possibility in the summer.

New York State seems to have more than its fair share of attractions, ranging from cityscape to rustic mountain view.  A trip to Nelson or one of the surrounding towns can be a home base for the Finger Lakes, or it can be a gateway to its own natural beauty and relaxation.
