Make Mine Manhattan: SoHa & Morningside Heights Vacation Rentals

Before booking your SoHa vacation rental, you should know this: It stands for South of Harlem.  This neighborhood, along with the much larger neighborhood of Morningside Heights, is still residential, the kind of place that people go to flee from the pricier rents and higher tax bracket neighbors of Gramercy Park and Sutton Place.

A major player in the Morningside Heights scene is Columbia University, which dominates the properties between 114th Street and 125th Street.  Other learning institutions are here as well, put none have quite the same presence.

Manhattan Neighborhood Search: SoHa & Morningside Heights

SoHa is South of Harlem and north of the Upper West Side.  It’s part of Morningside Heights, which runs from Morningside Park to the Hudson River and from 110th Street to 125th Street.  Another way to look at it is being between Harlem and the Hudson River.

SoHa & Morningside Heights Attractions

Morningside Heights stock in trade isn’t the thriving art scene, trendy restaurants, and sticker shock-inducing designer stores of some of the hipper parts of Manhattan.  A vacation rental here  should open your eyes to a more realistic slice of New York life.  It’s residential and academic, with plenty of smaller shops, food markets, stores, and unpretentious but good restaurants.  Fans of Seinfeld should know that Morningside Heights is home to Tom’s Restaurant; there’s less of a crowd on the weekdays if you want to go.
