Malone: Really Upstate New York
You may not have heard of the upstate New York town of Malone as a vacation rental destination - yet. It doesn’t have the cachet of Westchester or the history-drenched pull of the Saratoga Springs area, but Malone has a lot to offer the people who come to visit.
First of all, let’s discuss the location. At nearly 200 miles north of Albany, Malone isn’t the sort of weekend getaway town like you’ll find in the Hamptons or even the Catskills. If you want to fly in, you’d be better off considering flights to Plattsburgh International Airport, which is near Lake Champlain and the Vermont border.
Just how far north is Malone? It’s 70 miles south of Montreal, Quebec.
However, despite the distance, Malone manages to bring in plenty of visitors. Local attractions include the Adirondack Park, Franklin County Fair, and Franklin County Historical Museum. There’s also golfing at the local course, skiing at Titus Mountain, and mountain biking on the local trail system. Anyone who has read Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books will also want to pay a visit to the Almanzo Wilder Farm.
If you’re willing to drive an hour or so, more activities await. A few highlights include High Falls Gorge, the Great Lakes - Saint Lawrence River Seaway, and the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks. So come on north and see Malone!
