Lower East Side Attractions
Manhattan’s Lower East Side - popularly abbreviated LES - has vaulted over its humble beginnings to become one of hip Manhattan’s favorite places to party. Its modern roots tell the story of hard-working immigrants; in the past, these were largely people of Jewish, Polish, Irish, and Italian origins and more recently of Japanese and Middle Eastern descent. What was traditionally a working-class area up until the 1990s suddenly became cool in the 2000s. Check out the tribute to its varied ethnicities and social classes at the Tenement Museum, which also conducts walking tours of the area.
Thanks to its trendy clientele, a vacation rental on Manhattan’s Lower East Side appeals to a young and upscale mindset.
