The Adirondacks Lakes: Long Lake Vacation Rentals
In the Adirondack region of New York, the mountains get the bulk of the attention. And why not? They’re unique, scenic, and eminently ski-able. But the lakes in the Adirondacks play an important role in the ecology of the region and in local tourism.
Admittedly, not all the Adirondacks lakes are natural. Some are reservoirs, created to control flooding for the Hudson and other major rivers. Some are simply rivers that have been dammed up or valleys that have been flooded. But even purists have to admit that these twisting, elongated lakes are beautiful.
Long Lake is formed by a widening of the Raquette River. It’s 14 miles long - not as long as Lake George, the Adirondack’s biggest lake, but not a minor pond either. It’s located west of Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest and south of Upper Saranac Lake and Saranac Wild Forest, so a vacation rental here is almost a must for lovers of the great outdoors. It’s also located within New York’s Adirondack Park; you can visit Owl’s Head Mountain, Coney Mountain, or Buttermilk Falls locally, to you can travel and see many more peaks. Or you can stick to lake activities, such as boating or water skiing. Or combine the two with a ride in a seaplane. After all, that’s what an Adirondacks vacation is all about.
