Long Beach:  Sun, Surf & White Sand

Long Beach is part of the South Shore region of Long Island, although technically it’s not on the shore of Long Island; it’s on an island of its own named, not surprisingly, Long Beach.  It’s one of the Barrier Islands that guard the shores of New York.

As an island, Long Beach certainly has its share of beaches.  In this case, it’s white sand beaches, perfect for sunning yourself.  There’s plenty of opportunity to surf, too, if you prefer a more active pastime.  If you’re searching for a vacation rental within range of multiple beaches, plus town and city parks, Long Beach should be high on your list.

Another reason that Long Beach is a popular vacation rental spot is its proximity to New York City.  It’s only about 30 miles from Manhattan to Long Beach, and JFK Airport is only 15 miles away.  (LaGuardia, New York’s other major airport, is 22 miles distant, and Long Island MacArthur Airport, in neighboring Nassau County,  is 42 miles away.)

If you’re vacationing on Long Island, it may seem slightly strange to say you’re on an island off the coast of another island.  However, for its size - less than 120 miles long - Long Island offers a lot of variety.  The South Shore area in particular has a tradition of seafaring; other areas of Long Island have their vineyards, and their grand mansions.  However, no matter where you stay, you’ll be relatively convenient to all of it.
