Lanesville, A Catskills Kind Of Town

There’s a small town by the name of Lanesville nestled into the Catskill Mountains of New York.  More particularly, it’s part of Greene County and a sort of little sister township to Hunter, New York.

Type Lanesville into a search engine and you won’t get the normal flurry of tourism websites.  This is, after all, quite a small place, but it is surrounded by some big drawing cards - more on that later.  Although vacation rentals pop up in some unusual places, searching for a vacation rental in Lanesville presents some challenges in comparison with, say, the Hamptons.  But a vacation rental in the Catskills is a time-honored concept, and Lanesville is most definitely in the Catskills.

Just how much in the Catskills, you ask?  Well, Lanesville is surrounded by peaks:  Shandaken, West Kill, Hunter, and Indian Head are well within range.  Phoenicia, another small town bolstered by mountain-related tourism, is just a few miles down the road, and so is Phoenicia Wild Forest.  The ominously-named Devil’s Tombstone campground is also just minutes away.

The Catskills have seen the peaks and valley of tourism, and it never pays to count an area out that is as richly beautiful as they are.  We hope you’ll consider Lanesville or a neighboring town as a site for a future vacation rental!
