Jiminy Peak: Nearly New York
When I was researching Jiminy Peak for this article, I was stumped by one consistent and pesky fact: Jiminy Peak is not in New York State. It’s near New York State - very much so, about 10 miles from the state line. But it is over the border in the great state of Massachusetts. Near New York, in other words, but not quite New York.
So if this puts you in a Massachusetts state of mind, why would you be researching vacation rentals in New York? Well, Jiminy Peak is a largely a skiing destination, so be sure to bring or rent your skis, warm clothes, and other equipment if you’re visiting in the winter. But like many ski centric areas, that means high rent on local hotels and vacation rentals. Instead, you can save some money by booking a vacation rental a few miles further away. Try:
Berlin, New York: Next to the Taconic State Forest, Berlin is 16 miles north of Jiminy Peak, 27 miles east of Albany and its International Airport, and 161 miles from New York City.
Stephentown, New York: Stephentown shares a border with Massachusetts, and it’s only 11 miles away from Jiminy. New York City is three hours south, and Albany is forty minutes west.
