Islip: Your Long Island Home Base
Islip is a great place for a vacation rental for several reasons. In the first place, it couldn’t be much easier to get to via airplane: while Long Island MacArthur Airport is nominally in Ronkonkoma, it’s actually owned by the town of Islip.
The second reason that Islip is a great vacation spot? That would be the Atlantic Ocean, especially in the summertime. It’s located within Suffolk County, on the South Shore of Long Island, and it actually shares a border with - you guessed it - the Atlantic Ocean.
Vacation rental enthusiasts who have a soft spot for contemporary art masterworks will want to check out the Islip Art Museum, billed as one of Long Island’s premier destinations for contemporary art.
Finally, Islip makes a great spot for exploring pretty much anywhere in Long Island. At 118 miles in length, nothing is really too far away. The South Shore region where Islip lies has a rich maritime history, while the North Shore is famous for its “Gold Coast” - a run of historic mansions. There’s over 60 vineyards and 30 wineries in the North Fork of Long Island, and the South Fork terminates in Montauk, the easternmost point of Long Island. Something for everybody? You bet.
