Explore Long Island at Huntington

For an island that’s less than 120 miles long, Long Island has its full share of divisions.  Starting from the west, there’s the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens; then there’s the North Shore and the South Shore, and finally, the North and South Forks.  While Brooklyn and Queens belong properly to New York City, the rest of Long Island is defined by where it lies.

Huntington, for example, is located on the North Shore of Long Island, facing the Long Island Sound.  It was founded in the middle of the 17th century, when the land was bought from the Matinecock tribe by European settlers.  It’s now part of Suffolk County, an area that’s famous for its grand historical mansions.

Huntington, as a matter of fact, has mansions and mansion tours to offer sightseers, but it has much more than that.  For a starter, it’s got location:  within 40 miles, there’s New York City and both JFK and LaGuardia Airports.  Long Island MacArthur Airport is 22 miles to the east, so vacation rental seekers can fly in with ease.

What else can you do in Huntington?  There’s local theatre and concerts, a respected art museum, and historical sites aplenty.  It may be an ideal spot for a Long Island vacation rental.
