Make Mine Manhattan: Harlem Vacation Rentals
A vacation rental in Harlem puts you near art, history, performing art, and so much more. While Harlem traces its origins back more than 450 years - right back to the Dutch settlement of the area in 1658 - this is a community of changes. It's risen and fell, and pulled itself up again. The most recent renaissance, in the later part of the 20th century, is still in progress.
Manhattan Neighborhood Search: Where is Harlem?
Harlem has rather irregular boundaries. A very approximate definition of its territory runs from the East River to the Hudson River and from 155th Street down to 96th Street, but the southern border in particular tends to take unexpected new directions.
Within Harlem, there are several more division and neighborhoods. For example, within Harlem, there's West Harlem, and within West Harlem, there's Sugar Hill. The main divisions within Harlem are East Harlem (a.k.a. Spanish Harlem), West Harlem, and Central Harlem.
Harlem Attractions
Harlem gained nationwide fame thanks to the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s and 1930s, when jazz music and African-American art contributions began to get some of the recognition they deserved. That in itself can be a reason to get a Harlem vacation rental, but it's not the only one. Students of history and architecture will find rich study grounds here.
