Gore Mountain: Skiing and More
Located in the town of North Creek, New York, Gore Mountain is the name of one of New York’s State Ski Centers and one of the four mountains that this winter sports park sends its patrons merrily swishing down. (Don’t worry - if you’re not an expert, lessons are available.)
The Gore Mountain complex includes four peaks (Gore, Burnt Ridge, Little Gore, and Bear Mountains) and nine faces. There’s a vertical drop of just over 2,500 feet, and New York State has provided no less than the following amenities:
14 Ski Lifts
5 terrain parks
94 alpine trails (containing 19 glades)
Devoted to skiing and snowboarding in the summer, Gore Mountain changes gears when the snow melts and becomes a magnet for mountain bikers and hikers. A ride in the gondolas also makes a pleasant if less strenuous way to observe the foliage.
When it comes to accommodations and attractions, the Gore Mountain area has a wide variety. Vacation rentals in towns like Indian Lake (20 miles away) and North Creek (right at the heart of things) are an option. Vacation rentals are especially great for groups and families. Non-skiing activities may entail a car ride or two, but not lengthy ones; Hudson Gorge is 18 miles to the west; Ticonderoga is 45 miles northeast; Lake Placid is 75 miles north, and Albany is 85 miles south.
