A Welcome to Friends Lake
What is it about a lake vacation that’s so invigorating? Is it the scenery, the swish of the waves, the feeling that there’s no hurrying needed? Or is it the thrill of carving up the water on a Jet ski or slicing through the surf (at top speed) on a speedboat?
The lakes of upper New York State have come in for their share of visitors for well over a hundred years now. This is especially true in the Adirondacks region, where mountains and lakes coexist and a multitude of activities lure the returning lake cabin owner and the rookie vacation home renter alike.
Friends Lake, New York, is not a town; it’s an actual lake, tucked between towns of Chestertown, Weverton, and Warrensburg. Geographically speaking, it’s roughly midway between Lake George and Hudson Gorge.
Visitors aren’t a strange site in this area of New York; the pull of the Adirondacks, the scenery, and the clear lake water is obvious. To the north, there’s Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest, Hudson Gorge, and Schroon Lake; to the east, Lake George. Visitors can enjoy any number of outdoor activities, from hiking and fishing in the summer to skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. That’s one reason Friends Lake and surrounding areas are popular for vacation home rentals.
