Franklin, NY:  It’s all About Location

Is it time for vacation, and the family is still undecided about where to book their New York vacation rental?  Perhaps there is a skiing contingent (or, in the spring, summer, or fall, a hiking contingent) battling a wine enthusiast, or a fishing fiend arguing with a connoisseur of beautiful scenery?  Will there ever be a consensus, much less a firm vacation rental booking?

Well, one of the great things about upstate New York is that you often don’t have to choose between beauty and sport.  This is especially true if you are willing to do a bit of driving.  While you probably don’t want to spend your entire vacation in a car, transiting from point A to point B, a quick drive can take you a lot of places.

Take the village of Franklin, in upstate New York, as an example.  It’s on the boarders of the Catskill Mountains.  State Forests and skiing centers are within an hour or two.  It’s also approximately two hours south of Syracuse and the Finger Lakes region of New York, equally famous for beauty and vinery.

The town of Franklin has a history of changing and adapting.  It was settled pre-Revolutionary War, and it was officially made a town in 1792.  It survived many changes in regional farming and transportation, along with changing times and attitudes.  If you’re looking for a tranquil spot away from it all, Franklin is a good place to start your search.
