East Hampton:  All That and a Beach, Too

Check out any map of the eastern coast of the US and you’ll quickly realize how close everything is, and how diverse.  Within a day’s drive, you can go from rustic mountain peaks to ritzy shoreside mansions.  If spending a day at the beach in the most well-heeled surroundings sounds appealing to you, consider a trip to East Hampton.

Lodging:  The Hamptons are synonymous with second homes for wealthy New Englanders.  For those of us not quite so fortunate, a stay at an area hotel, B&B, or vacation rental is certainly an option.  Nearby communities like Amagansett and Southampton provide additional vacation rental home opportunities.

Location:  Occupying a peninsula on Long Island, East Hampton is nearly surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean in the form of no less than three bays and Block Island Sound.

History:  Founded in 1648, East Hampton has been attracting wealthy residents almost from the start.  It is primarily famous now for its rows of aristocratic old mansions, a thriving artist community, and Hampton International Film Festival in October.

Add in nearly a dozen state and local parks, excellent restaurants, and plenty of history in easy reach, and it’s easy to see why East Hampton and its neighbors remain a popular and prestigious vacation destination.
