Visiting the Delaware River Valley

The Delaware River Valley in New York runs primarily along the Pennsylvania state line, going as far south as Port Jarvis on the New Jersey boarder and extending up to Narrowsburg.  Various smaller towns, including Callicoon, Long Eddy, and Pond Eddy, are along the way.

Technically, the Delaware gets its origins further upstate in the Adirondacks.  The Delaware River Valley flows through the Poconos, the Appalachians, and the Catskills; reason number one why its so popular with tourists and vacation rental home owners.

Reason number two - particularly the upper reaches of the Delaware Valley by Hancock - is the unspoiled beauty of the area.  Twenty-three of the 73 miles of this river as it wends its course between NY and PA are classified as scenic waters.  It’s becoming more common to see wildlife, even the majestic and elusive bald eagle, along its shores.

The remaining fifty miles or so of the Delaware River in New York is classified as recreational - which brings us to the third reason for considering a vacation rental in the area.  There’s boating, fishing, hiking, birding, and camping to be done.  For bike enthusiasts, New York State Bicycle Route 17 runs alongside the Delaware River for a ways - the perfect place to spend an active (or not so active) vacation.
