Andes - So Much More than a Weekend Away

If getting into the New York Post and The New York Times does a celebrity make, Andes - a village in upstate New York that often inspires adjectives like quaint and artsy - has made it. 

Located in Delaware County, Andes has a bit of both worlds - farmland sprinkled with cows, horses, and the occasional llama; rolling meadows, the Hudson River, and the Catskill Mountains are all represented in the area.  It also appeals to nearly every type of vacationer:  the huntin‘- fishin‘- shootin’ sort will be glad to know that you can hunt everything up to and including bear, while three galleries and a selection of stores vie for more refined attentions. 

The restaurant scene, as represented in review sites, emphasizes the rustic aspect, but you can find a good steak, pizza, and (rather surprisingly) authentic barbeque within the town’s limits.  The top spots were awarded to Cha Cha Hut BBQ and Andes Hotel.

 With so many New Yorkers in on the secret of the Andes, finding a vacation rental to suit your needs may require prompt planning, so don‘t wait.  If you can’t find one in Andes, consider one of the nearby communities, like Bovina Center or Margaretville.  With everything a rustic trip is famous for within easy reach of your vacation rental, perhaps you’ll feel inspired to try out the Andes for a bit more than just a long weekend!
